The Department of Conservation ( DOC ) provides 6 serviced campsites with water, communal areas, showers & toilets.

The Awana Campground is situated on the Awana estuary at the northern end of Awana Beach and is surrounded by farmland and dunes. Just 300m south of one of Great Barrier Island’s most popular surf breaks.

Explore historic sites.
Endangered bird species: pateke (brown teal), New Zealand dotterel, oyster catcher and banded rail.
Do not disturb, and take special care during nesting season.
